DANVILLE, MONTOUR COUNTY - Geisinger will soon give Danville's downtown economy a booster shot. Hospital officials are preparing to build a
4.4 million dollar office building on Mill Street. "Our
plan is to relocate one hundred administrative support personnel to this site
and this will be in about a year and a half, the Spring of 2009," said
Geisinger’s Robert Davies.
The Greater Susquehanna Chamber of Commerce completed
a study that reveals those 100 people will have a five million dollar impact on
the downtown. Davies added, "They
are going to be part of the economic fabric of downtown. They'll eat lunch here. During breaks they'll go to local businesses
and we think it'll be a very important impetus to the economic vitality of
downtown."
BJ's Rib and Steak house is located right next to the
building site. “It'll increase our lunch
and the crowd definitely. We'll be a lot
busier at lunch, not that we aren't now, but definitely our whole staff across
the boards is definitely excited for them to move in,” said Jeremy Fritz who
works at the restaurant.
And just across the street from the proposed office
is Collectables Unlimited. Owner Jim
Hill said, "Quite frankly, it's going to bring people into the area and we
already get an awful lot of people from Geisinger coming down that might be
there to wait for treatment or what have you."
Davies tells WBRE News the new building will be
designed to fit in with the surrounding 1800's structures and will be 25,000 square feet. | |
