The answer is found in Harrisburg where lawmakers say politics has slowed the flow of the gaming money. Tom and Jean Jenkins in Wilkes-Barre run a garage sale to make extra money Things are tight with the price of just about everything going up yet their taxes are not going down.
We met with State Representative Todd Eachus who helps direct policy in Harrisburg. He says that tax relief is on the way. He states, "We are trying to focus on the disproportionate population that gets hit the hardest and focus on tax relief gaming relief fund and try to make sure we do that while trying to find a solution for the broader tax relief issue." Eachus also says he understands taxpayer frustration but says gaming revenue benefits will increase in the months ahead. He states, "In some cases its been small, that being, only less than half of the gaming sites are now under operation. When all fourteen locations in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are operating we are going to see a much more significant fund and must spread it around equally across the state.
Many people tell Eyewitness News they will believe it when they see it, on their tax bill. The bottom line is that people say talk is cheap and they want action. | |
