LUZERNE/COLUMBIA COUNTY LINE- A crash involving a garbage truck had Interstate 80 a big mess this morning at mile marker 251.5. The westbound lanes of the highway were shut down from 5:00 A.M. until one lane reopened around 9:45 A.M.
State police say the driver lost control of his tractor-trailer hauling garbage. The truck partially overturned spilling garbage onto the highway. The truck then caught fire which spread to the garbage. Several fire companies as well as a Spill Response Team, PA DEP and the Luzerne County EMA were called to the scene.
The highway should be back to normal this afternoon.
