With every price increase at the pump there's an increase of people taking public transportation. The Luzerne County Transit Authority says 6,000 more people are riding buses. That's comparing march of last year to March '08.
We talked to some of those riders today, who say it's all because of the pain at the pump. Here in Wilkes-Barre , people are ditching their rides to take a ride on public transit buses. "It cost me 75 dollars to fill up my gas, i just can't afford it. I don't make that kind of money. Basically the bus cost me a dollar fifty," says Geza Stumpfel. He isn't the only one sharing that thought. Liz Slevin says,“Now you got to pay so much for gas it's just unbelievable. And it's just much cheaper to ride the bus now, and it's pretty sad, but i hope something happens and it goes down."
Right now, there seems to be no end in sight for rising gas prices. Bus drivers says more people are packing on the bus this month. Luzerne County Transit Authority says riders are growing by the thousands each month.
