LUZERNE COUNTY- Albert and Mary Leach from Florida stopped for a quick break along I-81 in Nuangola. The Englishman and his Canadian bride are on their way to Ottawa by way of this monster mobile home.

It takes the couple's American dream 150 gallons to fill. Still, there's no sign they're slowing down anytime soon. It gets 7 miles to the gallon, but they don’t worry about the money they’re spending. "If you really like to drive these, buy a gas station, but if you worry about it you'll never go anywhere," said Albert.

AAA estimates Fourth of July travelers will stay closer to home this year, because of higher prices at the pump. Case in point - Roberta Kates. The Emmaus, PA native is on her way to the Finger Lakes in New York with her Dalmation, Rita, and her husband. "We realize the cost of it, but we still want to take a vacation and get away for awhile and relax," she said.

Others like Margaret Hart say they're staying home this holiday. She and her family even car-pooled to get to her granddaughter’s wedding in West Virginia this weekend. “We're not traveling for the holiday weekend 1. Because of the gas prices and 2. Because we're working,” she said.

Megan and Paul Wallace are making the 14-hour trek from Virginia to Maine. She can't avoid the trip to see her parents, but says it's more difficult now filling the gas tank on her Mustang. "Well, being a private duty nurse it's hard to make enough to do this," she said.

Lucky for travelers here, the Hazleton Area Band Boosters are serving up some home-made goodies. Brian Shott said, "Very good transaction here this morning with travelers from all over, Boston, Washington all over."

Last year at this time gas was a relatively affordable $.2.97 a gallon.
