PLAINS TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY- Northeastern Pennsylvania will soon have another trauma center - the only one in Luzerne County.

It'll be based at Geisinger, Wyoming Valley in Plains Township, near Route 115, I-81 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Geisinger officials unveiled their plans for a level two trauma center on Wednesday. It will open on October 1st.

It’s designed to handle those patients who suffer severe injuries, many of who are now flown out of the area.

And time can mean the difference between life and death. The trauma center means that surgeon and operating room staff, as well as other experts on site in this hospital 24-7.

It will be located inside the new critical care unit now under construction.
