General Hospital Nurses Rally in Wilkes-Barre - Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 7:15PM EST

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY - Hundreds of nurses, their families, and supporters spent their Saturday rallying in downtown Wilkes-Barre.

They're calling on Wilkes-Barre GeneralŐs new owner, Community Health Systems, to put patients before profits.

The hospital is now for-profit and nurses say some of the recent actions taken by the owners are putting patients at risk.

Fran Prucinski, a registered nurse said, "Staff ratios we worked so hard for in the past will become a thing of the past. Nurses are leaving, their positions aren't getting filled. I'm worried if this is the writing on the wall."

The nurses say Saturday's rally is just one part of a series of community efforts to raise awareness about the situation.

They also have petitions with thousands of signatures and are handing out yard signs.
