EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - William and Mary Searfoss played a board game with their Nephew Mike Goucher every evening after he had dinner at their home.
William said, "You could cont on him coming in the door at 6:34 every night to eat supper."
So when the couple didn't hear from him for days, they put out a missing persons report. "I knew something bad happened," said Mary.
On Tuesday police found Mike's car in a ditch on a rural road in Price Township. On Wednesday they found his body about fifty yards away from his car. William said, "[A detective from] the District Attorney's office called us and confirmed our worst fears."
Mike was found stabbed to death. He was only 21 years old. Police say 19 year old Shawn Freemore killed him. "To die with such an unconscionable act of violence is heartbreaking," said William.
The family told us the killer took a good soul. Mike loved helping others. On his 18th Birthday he couldn't wait to sign up for the Community Crime Watch. "We're in here ready to put candles on his cake. He was out putting crime watch signs on his car," remembered William.
Mike also played the organ at local churches. He loved music and he served in the Army.
William said, "Mike touched everybody he came in contact with, and I know everybody says that, but he really did."
The accused killer told police he stabbed Goucher because Goucher made an unwanted sexual advance at him. He also said the pair had a sexual relationship in the past. Goucher's family said even if that story is true, it is not a reason to kill someone.
