(WILKES-BARRE, Luzerne County) Governor Rendell made a trip to Wilkes-Barre Wednesday afternoon to deliver a Halloween treat to the city and residents of the North End.

The Governor is bringing assistance after fire ravaged parts of the Murray Courtright Building on October 21.

Governor Rendell says the state will allocate $750,000.00 in funds from the Housing and Redevelopment Assistance Act. In addition, the city will contribute $250,000.00 from the community block development grant program, for a total of $1,000.000.00.

The city will meet tomorrow to discuss which contractor will win the bid to begin bringing the property down. Officials will also have to test for and remove asbestos (if there is any) during the process.

Earlier, Wednesday Wilkes-Barre Mayor Tom Leighton says the demolition could happen as early as a week.
