Governor Seeks Cooperation to Prevent Flooding

Governor Seeks Cooperation to Prevent Flooding - Friday, April 4, 2008 at 11:12PM EST

WBRE News has obtained a copy of a letter from Governor Rendell. It asks the New York City Department of Environmental Protection to reduce water levels in its three NYC reservoirs to prevent repeat down-river flooding along the Delaware River in Pennsylvania.

In the letter, the governor asks, that in light of forecast rain expected over Southeast New York, to join him "In taking action to help protect against Delaware River Main stem flooding."

It's believed overflow water from New York City's reservoirs caused this massive flooding along Pike and Monroe county towns in June, 2006.

The reservoirs were apparently at 100% capacity when a dozen inches of rain hit the ground, sending torrents of water down the river to unsuspecting communities like Delaware Water Gap.
