SWIFTWATER, MONROE COUNTY - Pocono Restaurant week kicks off today. That means there are special deals and special events at all sorts of restaurants in the Poconos.

These days people want good food at good prices. David Hull of Stroudsburg explained,"The way the economy is people are cutting back going different places and they're looking for value."

That's why so many people look forward to Pocono Mountain Restaurant week. Christina Rodis-Durst is the Event Planner at Desaki. That's a Japanese Restaurant in Swiftwater. She said,"We have been very fortunate - with the help of events like restaurant week - to gain popularity in the area."

This will be the second year Desaki, formerly Shiro, participates in Restaurant Week. Hull said,"I like Desaki because of the atmosphere - cause of the consistent quality food products and fabulous service."

This year's deal is half price off everything on Friday. That includes drinks and appetizers. There's also a Saki and Sushi pairing event for $40. Rodis-Durst said,"You'll be able to sample a variety of saki's both cold and hot, learn about their subtleties of flavor and how they're best paired with our sushi."

They expect a big crowd. The popularity of special events has helped Desaki succeed. Workers are installing more hibachi tables in a new balcony seating area. Rodis-Durst said, "[It will] be a premier space - very well appointed and offer a bird's eye view of everything that goes on here at Desaki."

Desaki is just one of two dozen Pocono Restaurants where you can dine out and dig in for a great price this week.

Restaurant week is organized by Local Flair Magazine. It runs through May 1.

The half price off everything is a scam. My wife and I arrived at Desaki's on Friday, 23 April at around 5 PM. The hostess asked if we were there for the promotion or dinner. I answered dinner, since I was not interested in the Saki tasting promotion. We were seated and I asked for the half-priced meal deal. The hostess then informed that I couldn't get half-priced meals because I didn't answer "promotion" at the door and it was now too late. We walked out.

What kind of crap is that for a high class restaurant that charges a mandatory 18% gratuity?
