Green Business Tour in Scranton

Green Business Tour in Scranton - Monday, April 20, 2009 at 5:30PM EST

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Monday evening people were walking the streets of Scranton, unearthing the city's eco-friendly treasures. It's all part of an Earth Week celebration to show off how businesses are going green.
Scranton's known for its green pride on parade day. But there are businesses in the city that are green all year long. Eco-friendly that is. This old laundry building for the former Casey Hotel has been refurbished and reused as a hip new retail and living space.

Outrageous owner Paul Nardone said, "The business had great bones so let’s not build something new, lets take something that's there and turn it into a great business environment and also residential environment."

Inside Outrageous is a trendy coffee and gift shop. Upstairs a used book shop called anthology carries on the green theme. Not only do they resell books they offer eco-friendly products like greeting cards.

"The paper’s made with seeds so when you're done. Toss it into a planter or garden and it will grow," he said.

You'll also find the green state of mind at Greenbeing on the 300 block of Adams Avenue. It sells environmentally friendly clothes. Five blocks away Danielle and Company operates out of this century old repair shop at 813 Adams Avenue. Bill Fleming said, "Our company is all organic so we're at the top end of green."

The 7-year-old business sells organic candles, body washes, bath soaps and more. It sells from its showroom and distributes to 120 retailers worldwide. “We produce all our products. We make candles, melt beeswax, make the lotions and the body wash all from scratch and right here in Scranton, Pennsylvania," he said.

An example of Scranton's green scene spreading around the earth. The tour continues till 7:00 Monday at 7. Many are offering discounts or free gifts.
