SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - A large corporate center in Scranton is about to get its first tenant. A medical real estate company is the first to build at the Mount Pleasant Corporate Center.
The deal took roughly three years. The company will take over a 3.2 acre lot which was once abandoned coal land. Developers say the main reason why they chose Scranton is because the city is building a new medical college.
The corporate center is located at 7th Avenue and West Linden Street in Scranton.
"We're enthusiastic. We're proud to be the first. We're committed to this project," Vincent Visceglia with Beacon Medical Real Estate said.
Beacon Medical Real Estate is the first tenant. They will build a two-story, 30,000 square foot medical building on the land.
"Knowing the medical college was committed to coming here, we knew there would be medical office use following them," Chris Longo with Beacon Medical Real Estate said.
"We're using almost exclusively, local, Scranton professional, our architects, engineers and construction will all be done locally," Visceglia said.
Bulldozers got right to work as soon as the groundbreaking took place. Construction is expected to be finished next fall.
Kristyn Kelly from the Scranton Chamber of Commerce helped secure the deal.
"The city of Scranton basically sells itself really! We've had a tremendous rebirth," Kelly said.
City leaders call the announcement significant. They say it signals the "beginning of the end" of the recession.
"The last 18 months have been so difficult. We've had projects cancelled. We've had projects not materialize. Here's something we've been working on and people are going to say 'yeah -- the recession is over.' "
With one tenant down, the Mount Pleasant Corporate Center has four other lots still available. | |
