SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The Commonwealth Medical College is about to begin construction on its first building. Supporters of the proposed new Medical School attended ceremonies along Pine Street in Scranton Tuesday at the site of what will be the school's Medical Sciences Building. The 115 million dollar building is expected to open in 2011.
The school will be the first new Medical College to be build in the country in 25 years. It will initially open in 2009 in temporary space which is being provided by Lackawanna College.
Attorney John Moses, who serves as Chairman of the Board of Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania says that the health insurance company has pledged a total of 70 million dollars to help fund the new Medical College. | |
