Williamsport, Lycoming County-
After nearly a decade of planning, the Susquehanna River Walk project got underway with a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday.
The River Walk and Timber Trail will be an approximately four mile long paved loop for walkers and bikers.
It will connect Williamsport, South Williamsport, and Loyalsock Township- with river crossings on the Market and Maynard Street bridges.
The $2 million project will utilize signs, benches, and sculptures celebrating the area’s rich lumber heritage.
Lycoming County Transportation Planner Mark Murawski noted, “It’s going to allow the communities here to reconnect with the river. It’s going to promote exercise, healthy living, and basically will be a tourist asset for the whole region.”
Construction on the Susquehanna River Walk should be completed by fall of this year.
