Tuesday, Oct 27, 2009 @ 11:43pm EDT
HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY-
Getting unwanted guns off the streets was the goal of a gun buy back in Hazleton tonight
A lot of people brought their guns to city hall
Owners received a gift certificate to the Laurel Mall.
The guns will now be disposed of safely and are off the streets.
Several area police departments helped with Tuesday night's event.
Many people have different reasons for getting rid of their guns.
Richard Culp of Hazleton told us he wanted to get rid his guns so no one would break in and take them.
Luzerne County Deputy David Pedri noted "Numerous times in our jobs we seen an assault become aggravated assault. A fight turn into a homicide and that's because of the availability of gun. This program allows people to get rid of unwanted fire arms"
A ten thousand dollar state grant secured by state representative Todd Eachus helped with tonight's buy back | |
