Gunfire Leads to Wild Chase - Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 07:32AM EST

PLYMOUTH, LUZERNE COUNTY - Police say gunfire led to a high speed chase throughout several Luzerne County communities.
Several police departments took part in the pursuit.
One man is locked up in Luzerne County Prison while another was still in a holding cell in Wright Township late Thursday morning..
Police say the 2-men were part of a wild chase.
That pursuit started on Main Street or Route 11 in Plymouth into Plymouth Township.
Other police joined in the chase as it headed onto Route 29.
Then the pursuit made its way to Interstate 81 northbound and eventually Route 309 southbound where it ended in the Mountaintop area.

21-year-old Michael Bruce of Highland Mills, New York is charged with aggravated assault, fleeing police, vandalism and various traffic violations.
Here's what police say happened.
It started Thursday morning just before 2:30 in Plymouth
At least 6 gunshots were fired in a Washington Avenue parking lot near Olde Tymers Pub.
Bruce and 3 others took off in a car
An officer stopped the car in Plymouth but Bruce soon took off again -- leading police on a dangerous high speed pursuit.

"It puts the public in danger and along with the officers and the people that are also running from the police," said Plymouth Police Chief Myles Collins. "We try to stop it as fast as we can."

A woman named Aggie from Plymouth who didn't want to reveal her last name said, "When I saw the cops and I heard them say we're in pursuit of them, I stood here and I clapped. That's how happy I was."
She heard the initial gunshots from a couple doors down the road.
"I dove for the floor because that's how close they were."

Police say Bruce ran a couple of lights and struck a Kingston police car twice before he veered off the road and stopped against a tree.
Some say the overnight gunfire is the latest example of big city crime coming to the smaller towns of northeastern Pennsylvania. And neighbors here say they're afraid for their safety.

"I don't go out at night. And I try to, you know, stay where there's a lot of traffic and people," said Donna Devens of Plymouth."
Meanwhile, Aggie expressed her own concerns.
"Somebody's going to walk by and get shot or one of these bullets are going to hit one of the kids or one of these elderly people."

Police are investigating if drugs are tied to the crime..
They searched for evidence along Route 309 after seeing someone in Bruce's car throw a baggie containing a white powdery substance out the window. "Where you have drugs, you have guns," said Chief Collins.

Bruce was locked up Thursday morning on 25-thousand dollars bail.
One of his passengers ran from police and hid for several hours.
Police caught him shortly after 8:30 a. m. walking along Route 309.
Nearby Crestwood High School was on lockdown until the man was caught.
Police were trying to identify him at midday and determine what charges he may face.
2 other passengers in Bruce's car were questioned and released.
