Gusty Thunderstorms Rip Across Region

Gusty Thunderstorms Rip Across Region - Friday, April 9, 2010 at 04:02AM EST

Reported by: Meteorologist Dave Skutnik
Friday April 09 2010
A line of strong to severe thunderstorms ripped across the region Thursday evening. Strong winds knocked down trees and power lines throughout northeastern and central Pennsylvania.

A wind gust to 58mph was reported near Lock Haven just before 6PM. Trees are reported down along Church Street. In Williamsport some trees and power lines are down around the city. Quarter-sized hail was reported in Wysox, Bradford County.

Winds gusted to 50mph as the storms continued into the I-81 corridor. There are reports of trees and power lines down in Ashland in Schuylkill County and West Nanticoke in Luzerne County.

A wind gust of 52mph interrupted the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees season opener at PNC Field in Moosic. Crews struggled against that wind to get the tarp on the field as the rain began to fall.

PPL reported a peak of about 3,000 customers without power in our area at 9:00PM Thursday evening. Crews will work to restore electricity throughout the night.

An Eyewitness News viewer named Taryn captured the storm clouds above as they rolled into her area.
