HARRISBURG, DAUPHIN COUNTY - Tens of thousands of state workers whose paychecks are in limbo are expected to get their pay in about a week.
The state House voted 195-to-3, Tuesday, to pass a so-called bridge budget which the state Senate already approved.
The governor promised to use his line-item veto power to eliminate most spending in it -- but preserve funding to provide state workers their paychecks.
The governor stresses the bare bones budget is only be a "temporary" solution until he and the legislature agree to a final fiscal budget -- which is now 5-weeks overdue.
Some critics say agreeing to the bridge budget will only prolong the final budget battle by at least several more weeks.
They also say human services will now replace state workers caught in the budget crisis crossfire. | |
