HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY- The city of Hazleton is cracking down on drivers who don't obey the city's snow parking ban.
Police ticketed more than 700 people for not removing their cars from the side of the street where the ban is in effect. 400 of those tickets were written during the weekend storm.
The mayor says it's not a scheme to make money, it's trying to keep everyone safe. "It's all about public safety being about getting a fire engine around the city, especially tight, tight city streets where many people live. Now people are using alternative energy sources like kerosene. There is a fear of fire," says Mayor Lou Barletta.
The tickets start at $50. If they're not paid, the person will be sent to district court.
