STROUDSBURG - Most people agree, the economy has been less than healthy lately and lots of businesses are suffering. But one type of company has actually had a healthy bottom line boost.
Jenny Petrelli tries to save money on some things, like gas. But there's on place she's not willing to pinch pennies, the health food store.
"Your health is the most important thing you have," she said.
Petrelli shops for groceries at Earthlight Natural Foods in Stroudsburg. The place sells natural and organic groceries and vitamins.
"I don't want to eat food and pesticides. I just want to eat food without the pesticides and herbicides and all that," said Petrelli.
Store manager Jennifer LaPorta said customers like Jenny have improved the health of the health food business. "That's why we're just getting busier and busier," she explained.
While many grocers have struggled this year, Earthlight has seen a 15% business boost.
"I think they're really learning what we do to our foods and how much we process them," said LaPorta.
It's especially surprising to some people because most of the organic and all natural products cost a little bit more than regular groceries.
"It's just worth it to be healthy. That's the most important thing," said Petrelli.
So while customers may cut back on gas or restaurant trips, they'll keep shopping at Earthlight because their health is priceless.
Earthlight has also seen an increase in the sales of earth friendly products like organic household cleaners. The manager said people have just become more aware of their impact on the planet. | |
