Hear a New Radio Station in the Poconos

Hear a New Radio Station in the Poconos - Friday, February 13, 2009 at 4:18PM EST

MOUNT POCONO - A local DJ has decided the economy won't stop his music. Rather than search for work in a business that keeps downsizing, this guy started his own radio station with a twist.
It's been a long time since Rob Miller got behind the microphone. When WSBG radio cut back about a year and a half ago, he was one of the DJs the station let go.

Rob said, "Me being bitter it lasts for all about 15 minutes and I started working towards getting this radio station up and running."

Rob recently started his own station - on the internet. "This is definitely a broadcasting platform that's on the way up," he said.

His station is called PIBCO. That stands for The Poconos Internet Broadcasting Company. Listeners hear alternative music from the 70s through today. There are songs you won't hear on your average station, including music from local artists.

For now Rob works out of a small studio in Mount Pocono but he plans to expand soon to an office in downtown Stroudsburg. He will add four new internet radio stations. One of those will be a community station. So just about anyone who's ever wanted to be on the radio will have a chance. "I think there's room enough for everybody in the Poconos for broadcasting," said Rob.

Music lovers said they're excited about the business. Mike Reardon of Pocono Summit remarked, "That could be the future of radio." Clicking a mouse instead of turning a dial could change the way we listen to music.
