LUZERNE COUNTY- Mother Nature provided us with some pre-Fourth of July holiday fireworks Friday afternoon. Heavy rains and lightning did some damage across Luzerne County.
Emergency crews and PennDOT were kept hopping. Check out the scene along Bunker Hill Road in Luzerne. The heavy rain created a mud slide, closing the road to traffic.
As crews were removing the mud, trees and debris, it started raining again. So workers were forced to stop and then start up again once it cleared up.
It was a shocking evening for the Nowroski family of Swoyersville. Their Gillespie Street home was struck by lightning.
The strike burned a hole in the roof and filled the attic area with smoke. The fire department checked it out and gave the family the all clear to return home but the damage was done.
The National Weather Service says 10 to 12 homes in Luzerne County were struck by lightning Friday afternoon.
And in Edwardsville the heavy rains filled the streets with water. It was slow going for vehicles, but very fun for youngsters, some of whom were splashing around in the big puddles. | |
