WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- James Height’s name remains on the ballot in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District, despite the fact that he resigned from the board last week. Monday he was charged by the U. S. Attorney's Office. So the question is what happens if he wins a seat?

James Height's name remains on the ballot, along with 7 other candidates vying for four seats on the Wilkes-Barre Area School Board. The former board President resigned last week and was charged Monday with accepting a bribe to steer a contract to a yet unnamed company.

But voters could still cast their vote for him. Len Piazza is Director of Voter Services in Luzerne County and said, "This is the first time we had a situation where a candidate has wished to withdraw from the campaign so close to the election. Obviously as we said before it was impossible to remove someone from the ballot."

If he wins, then the leaders of the political parties would get involved. "Once the withdrawal certificate comes into the Board of Elections he'll be removed from the ballot. At that point in time the political parties of the county would then select a candidate instead."
