LANESBORO, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY- A new helicopter landing pad has been dedicated in Lanesboro to accommodate the estimated 40 to 50 emergency flights logged in that area each year.

Medical helicopters have been using landing sites at the Susquehanna Community High School Campus for many years, but there have been problems.

The strong prop-wash from the medical choppers blew away safety chips on the elementary school playground and caused a few broken windows.

The football field was also often too wet to allow for safe landings.

The school donated land for the new lighted landing pad.

Local emergency responders worked with the County Emergency Management Agency, as well as local contractors and suppliers to get the facility built.
