SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Agents from the Pennsylvania State Attorney General's Office said an 8-month-long investigation has lead to a half dozen arrests and the breakup of million dollar heroin ring in Lackawanna County.

Investigators spoke about the bust Thursday morning as they raided a home in West Scranton.

Agents from the State Attorney General's Office and local police took part in this raid on Luzerne Street in Scranton. They said it’s the result of information from a confidential informant that lead to multiple arrests and the break up of a heroin distribution operation.

Deputy Attorney General Frank Noonan explained "Bobby McCarrel is the leader. He's been arrested. That is his residence today and we've made about 24 purchases of heroin off of him and his group. They were selling all the way from northern to southern Lackawanna County. We estimate they've been selling about 2,000 bags of heroin a week. It’s one of the largest heroin operations we've seen in the last year."

In addition to McCarrel, agents arrested his girlfriend, Vikki Lyn Gadson, Diane Soto of Clarks Summit, and Martin McGraw, Kevin Smith, and Jennifer Summa all of Old Forge.

Agents said the house was set up like a fortress. "In the past year they installed fencing along with a sophisticated camera system for the front and rear of the building has been put in" said DAG Noonan.

Agents said they got a lot of help from informants. But other things caught their attention.

"The thing that drove it to our attention was the rapid accumulation of wealth by this particular individual. I mean, there are several very expensive cars that he purchased recently and all of these things led us to focus on this particular group" stated Noonan.

All of the suspects were arraigned on charges of possession of heroin and possession with the intent to deliver the drug. They also face charges of participating in a corrupt organization.

The Attorney General's Office said this is the largest heroin trafficking ring broken up in the Scranton area since the arrest of 27 individuals as part of Operation Smackdown in December of last year.
