High Gas Prices Not Keeping Campers Home

High Gas Prices Not Keeping Campers Home - Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 5:21PM EST

Most of us would like to take a vacation from these gas prices, but are they actually stopping some of us from traveling this holiday? We headed to Francis Slocum State Park to see how people are dealing with it.
Joe Gallagher of Scranton is ready to go. "A week camping is like a three week vacation," says Gallagher.

He's had reservations here since October, and says high gas prices weren't going to stop him. "It's a cheap vacation no matter what you do. It's still very inexpensive," he says.

Same goes for two travelers from New Jersey. They admit gas prices were on their mind. "There's a lot of gas going into that truck and into this," said Nick Rizzo.

But that didn't stop them. Rizzo adds, "I didn't think twice about doing it. I mean I always knew it would take a lot of gas you know with the truck, and especially with 2500 pounds behind me."

You can't get a spot here at this state park. All 100 spots are booked through this weekend, and they have been for a while, showing that gas prices aren't causing campgrounds to run on empty.
