SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The Democratic race for the White House picked up new life Tuesday night after Hillary Clinton's big wins in Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island. Now Pennsylvania is in the national spotlight. The candidates will be all over the state for the next few weeks. But when Clinton makes it to our area her visit will be like coming home.
Hillary's family has deep routes in the Scranton area. Some of them lived in a home on Diamond Avenue. She could be seen playing in the back yard.
The little girl seen in a home movie playing in that back yard could end up being the next President of the United States. Hillary Rodham Clinton was born in Chicago but often came to northeastern Pennsylvania to visit her uncle, grandmother, and Grandfather Hugh Rodham Senior.
We got a glimpse at the home video which belongs to Hazel Price, who lived next door to Hillary's grandparents. She remembers Hillary's visits to Scranton very well.
"She was a fine little girl. Very pretty, very well mannered and kind of gregarious and outgoing. She was just a joy to be around. She played extremely well with other children, not only mine, but any neighborhood child who came in. She was very nice. The family use to come on these summer vacations. They’d come on the holidays, at Christmas especially to be with the grandparents. Even in the summer they went to Lake Winola. She always came down to the city. She’d come down really to see my daughter and my mother who was the cookie baker” explained Price.
Hazel, a former school board member, feels that Hillary's chances to be President are good. "I think she'll do very well. I think if the fight goes to the floor, and I'm of the opinion it will, she will definitely take the nomination" declared Price.
Hazel tells us she still follows politics, especially those involving Hillary Clinton!
