HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY -

The end of an era in Hanover Township, Sunday, as parishioners bid farewell to Holy Rosary Church.

The Roman Catholic Faith community has worshipped at the church for more than a century.

It was a moving and bittersweet occasion, as current and former parishioners attended the last mass to be celebrated inside Holy Rosary.

Genevieve Draina of Hanover Township says the service was very difficult, “It hurts and I'm trying not to cry because everyone will start. It's a bad sad, occasion.

Once Mass concluded, Father Thomas O'Malley and Holy Rosary's oldest parishioner locked the church doors and processed with the Eucharist to Saint Leo Church, which is just a few blocks away.

Holy Rosary parishioners are now considered members of their sister parish, Saint Leo.
