Home Rule Commission Meets in Hazleton - Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 9:19PM EST

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY- Changing the form of government was the purpose of a meeting in Hazleton Thursday night.

A Luzerne Home Rule Commission making the rounds to inform the public about bringing government back to the people. Thursday night's stop was at Hazleton City Hall.

Organizers explained what home rule is and answered questions about the movement. They also encouraged people to run for the government study commission. Mike Szustak of the Luzerne County Home Rule Commission explains, "What home rule is is a way for citizens to take an active part in their government by forming a commission and writing their own constitution essentially."

The group will hold another informational meeting on February 19th. It will be at the N-E-P-A Organizing Center in Wilkes-Barre.
