HONESDALE, WAYE COUNTY- The Honesdale YMCA has signed on to a Defense Department program that offers memberships to family members of deployed soldiers.

Y Director Tina Hoehn said she was approached by several local recruiters who had heard about the program. It provides some 31 million dollars nationally to cover the cost of memberships at participating YMCAS. Those memberships will be underwritten by the Department of Defense and administered through Military OneSource, an information and referral service for military families.

Ms. Hoehn said families who sign up for the program will have access to all of the Y's fitness equipment and facilities and be eligible to join various programs offered at the facility. The Honesdale YMCA is the only one in Wayne County.

Other YMCAS have also signed on to the program. Interested military families should check with the YMCA in or near their community.
