House up for sale without family approval

House up for sale without family approval - Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 5:52PM EST

A Mountain Top family got an unwelcome message: they're house is for sale.

Only they didn't put it on the market.

When the family got to the bottom of the problem, the reassessment process was apparently to blame.

"It was a nightmare. I mean it was like this is wrong, you can't do this to people," says Maureen Keiner.

Wednesday night, her family got some very unwelcome visitors.

Keiner says, "These 3 guys came to our house, knocked on the door and said do you know your house is for sale, up for sale tomorrow?"

The Keiners were taken back.

Considering they've lived at the same home for 39 years, paying taxes on time, even early.

But somehow their house made a county list of property's for sale due to non-payment of taxes.

The problem is it's Keiner's neighboring property that's up for sale.

In a recent reassessment, it was incorrectly combined with the Keiner's property."

The Keiners say they were told 21st century mapped their property incorrectly.

They had to straighten everything out at the Luzerne County courthouse.

They said the tax office quickly changed their home's for-sale status.

But they're still waiting for their property to be properly reassessed.

Larry Keiner says, “I'm pretty confident that it will be straightened out. It will take a while i think, but I'm still waiting for our reassessment."

The Keiner's say 21st century contacted them late Thursday afternoon and promised to clear this map problem within a week.
