SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY
The Humane Society of Lackawanna County is trying to care for 54 Potbellied pigs it seized during a raid on Monday.
The animals were taken from an old barn in Meshoppen Township, Wyoming County where officers said they were being kept in filthy conditions without access to a constant supply of fresh water.
A temporary holding pen was set up at the society's shelter in South Abington Township. But Officer Tina Walter said the Humane Society is looking for a vacant barn or similar facility where the pigs can be tested, individually, by a veterinarian.
Officer Walter said no decision has been made as yet as to what, if any, charges will be filed against Maria Burnham, the woman who owns the pigs. | | |
