SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - Two different rallies brought hundreds of people to downtown Scranton Thursday afternoon. The biggest rally was for the Tea Party Express.

The Tea Party Express is a bus that is going from coast-to-coast. Its making 35 stops on the way to Washington, DC. Hundreds of people cheered as the bus stopped in Scranton just after noon. Some people came from as far away as New York and New Jersey.

"We have a government that is not listening to us. They're concerned about getting power for themselves and not doing what is right for our country," Pat Ryan of New York said.

Many of the people who turned out oppose aspects of the Obama Administration. Many pointed to out of control spending or bailouts.

Kathy Tenorio of Monroe County came because she's concerned about the economy.

"We're afraid for our grandchildren. We have six grandchildren that we're afraid for," Tenorio said.

At the same time, supporters of the president and healthcare reform rallied on the other side of Courthouse Square in Scranton. They were smaller in number but not in spirit.

"I think he's an inspirational leader and I think he's a transforming president," Duke from Dallas said.

"They should have been speaking out eight years ago when George Bush sent all our money to Iraq. Where were they then?" Dorene Schutz questioned.

Some people who came out for the Tea Party Express walked away disappointed. They wish more emphasis was put on local speakers.

"I find it a little ironic that they claim it to be a grassroots event and they put entertainers on for five-ten minutes and said there's not enough time for local speakers," Vince Cruciani of Clarks Summit said.

Several national media outlets, including CNN and FOX NEWS, were in downtown Scranton for the rally.
