SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The bikers were back in town for a full throttle event. Even with the sun and 90-degree temperatures, lots of bikers enjoyed the chance to help veterans at the Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton.

For the 9th year in a row, Rolling Thunder roared into Scranton on Sunday for its annual veterans’ tribute. The event brought together hundreds of people. Michele Burns said, “People come from Philadelphia, Jersey, New York. Last year we had someone from California!”

Burns coordinates the huge ride that kicks off at the Gino Merli Center. All money raised goes right to the veterans that live here. Vincent Michaels appreciates what he sees. “It's very nice, very nice, very nice,” he said.

Hundreds of people ride motorcycles to pay tribute to those who have died in service, to those who have sacrificed and those who serve now. Don Knight said, “The men and women in uniform now thank you very much. There is someone out here who cares besides your families, shakes head.”

With a smile, veterans watch as one by one motorcycles go by some with flags on the back the veterans say they feel grateful for these patriotic citizens that love our country. They and say it's a magnificent sight and makes them feel good.

Bikers say what they are doing is fun. The credit goes to our war heroes - they paid a price - and they deserve all the thanks for the freedom we enjoy. Jesse Carter from Wilkes-Barre said, “It makes me feel good going for a good cause that’s the main reason for this.”

The Gino Merli Veterans Center is named after a World War II hero and medal of honor recipient.
