PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY - More than 220 new jobs are coming to Luzerne County after a new call-center opened its doors Monday morning. The new company is located at the Corporate Center on East Mountain in Plains Township.
The new company is called C3i. It's a customer service company that helps doctors and scientists with computer software problems.
The first day at C3i was full of computer training for workers, as the first batch of 16 workers hit the ground running.
"I know a few people who were displaced from my former employer, myself included, so I'm in contact with them, trying to get them to come here too," Harold Newberry of Exeter said.
With more than $1.5 million dollars from the state, owners of the company decided to set-up a 25,000-square foot office in the Corporate Center on East Mountain. Managers say the region's workforce made the area attractive.
"We saw a highly educated, young, aggressive labor force that fit-in well with what we do in technical call-center support," C3i co-founder Joel Morse said.
Support, which people like Shantika Emker can't wait to provide. She has been waiting to put her technical experience back to work for nearly a year.
"This is my first venture back into the area. I've had a little difficulty finding what type of work up until now and I'm really looking forward to working with C3i," Emker said.
Company leaders hope others are just as excited. They are looking to hire 100 additional workers immediately and nearly 130 others within three years. Officials hope to have all of the workers hired and trained by April.
