Hundreds of Pot Plants Found in West Scranton Home

Hundreds of Pot Plants Found in West Scranton Home - Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 5:45PM EST

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Two people are facing charges in connection with a big drug bust in Lackawanna County. Police say they seized more than 250 marijuana plants from a couple's home in West Scranton.
Police were called to the couple's home on North Rebecca Avenue after a domestic dispute. Once inside investigators say they found 266 pot plants, heaters, fertilizer and even guns inside the home.

From the outside the home at 535 North Rebecca Avenue looks like any other. But what cops say they found inside the basement has shocked the entire community. Neighbor Joan Romiti said, “I have two kids, so I was floored. You don't think it’s in your neighborhood but you don't know anymore."

Romiti couldn't believe 266 pot plants were seized from the home. “When we first came here, it was just older people that kept to themselves, but now its slowly changing," she said.

Several other neighbors who didn't want to go on camera said they were suspicious about what was going on inside this house. The reason? They say people would visit in the middle of the night for just 5 or 10 minutes.

Cameras and an elaborate lighting system can be seen outside the home. Neighbor Wanda Caponigro often saw the couple who lived there, Paul Viscomi and Megan Buckley. “I saw him take a lot of plants in there, because he said he was making a garden,” she said.

Other neighbors say the couple mostly kept to themselves. Sharon Hutchins said, “They come past in the car. They look at you and throw their hands up at you, like they're better than you."

Now the home that was filled was allegedly filled with pot sits condemned and neighbors are left in shock. Caponigro added, “They knew something had to be going on, but you couldn't, you can't prove anything."

Both of the suspects, Paul Viscomi and Megan Buckley, are facing a slew of drug charges in connection with the bust. They are both free and face preliminary hearings next week.
