BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY -- Beamers, Audis, and Mustangs, oh my! Drivers called 9-1-1 after seeing a fleet of cars on Interstate 80 Westbound.
"We received several phone calls about a lot of foreign vehicles driving at erratic speeds weaving in and out of traffic," said Corporal Sean Hoover.
Thirteen proved to be a truly unlucky number for this group - that's how many were cited for reckless driving.
"I believe there was more than 13," added Cpl. Hoover. "We just got some of them stopped."
The cars were on a benefit ride that started in New Jersey. One driver tells us they got pulled over twice in that state but got let go. The lead car was driven by a New Jersey sheriff, but the Pennsylvania troopers didn't let him off the hook.
"The weaving in and out of traffic could cause an accident," said Cpl. Hoover.
The line of cars passed our Eyewitness News vehicle at a high rate of speed on Interstate 80 in Columbia County. One driver tells us, they were going as fast as 130 miles per hour.
Reporter Kyla Campbell asked Gary Vas, one of the drivers, if he'd ever been part of a massive pullover. "No, not anything like that, no," chuckled Vas of Easton. The mustang driver took the citation pretty well.
"You have to look at it from the cop's perspective," said Vas. "It's not very safe going on the highway that fast. They had the right to pull us over."
If you're wondering what number is even unluckier than 13, try guessing the amount of money these guys will be paying in fines. | | |
