I-Team: FBI Searches at Pittston Twp. Building, Musto's Home Are Connected

I-Team: FBI Searches at Pittston Twp. Building, Musto's Home Are Connected - Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 04:02AM EST

Tuesday April 20 2010
PITTSTON TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY-- We're learning more about why the FBI searched the home of longtime state Senator Ray Musto and the Pittston Township Municipal Building.

Both searches have to do with commercial property in the greater Pittston area. Sources close to the investigation tell the I-Team that the FBI visit in Pittston Township is connected to their search of Senator Ray Musto's home.

FBI agents paid a visit to the offices of Pittston Township last Thursday. They were armed with a subpoena. Township Business Manager Jon Bonita confirms with the I-Team that the feds took records dealing with building permits for commercial buildings in the township.

Bonita says at this point he could not identify the buildings the FBI agents were targeting. He did say those permits were handled by Micheal Pasonics engineering firm based in Wilkes-Barre.

Pittston Township hired Pasonic to issue and handle building permits from the years 2006 to 2010. The township ended that contract in Janaury of this year. Pasonic has not been accused of any wrongdoing, but sources tell the I-Team that Pasonic is the link between the raid in Pittston Township and that at Senator Musto's home on April 8th.

The FBI has not revealed what they were looking for. But the I-Team has confirmed it does have a connection to commercial properties and/or work done at commercial properties in the greater Pittston area.

Sentator Musto told Eyewitness News at the time that he had no idea why the FBI was there, that he had nothing to hide and did nothing wrong.

Calls to Senator Musto and Mike Pasonic have not been returned.
