I-Team: G.A.R. Being Tested for Black Mold
I-Team: G.A.R. Being Tested for Black Mold - Friday, May 22, 2009 at 6:35PM EST
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- The I-Team received information that there may be black mold, which is a very toxic mold, in the lower level of G. A.R. High School.
Wilkes-Barre officials were also aware of that possibility and are now is taking steps to make sure students and teachers are safe.
We approached school officials Friday about what we learned. A source told us he was afraid that dirt, debris and mold were present in an area underneath the stage. He said it was black mold.
Apparently a large piece of the air conditioning duct work is missing, and air, from that filthy area, could enter into the auditorium.
Superintendent Dr. Jeff Namey said he was aware of a problem and after hearing our information put the tests on the fast track.
Lab tests should take several days but in the meantime the auditorium will be closed as will the vents that lead into that area. At this point it appears to be safe but if there is mold of any kind the school could be closed. | |
