It is almost too much to believe, a trusted teacher or coach arrested or questioned for getting too close to a student and violating a most sacred trust. In our area we 've seen several high profile investigations. In Williamsport , James Jamison will stand trial on more than two dozen chares of sexual abuse and related counts. Investigators say James Jamison, a gym teacher, abused an elementary student at Saint Boniface’s Elementary School. The boy says Jamison threatened him with a knife.

In Hazleton , a male teacher was suspended and then suddenly retired after allegations that he was getting too close to a female student. Sources close to the case say he was trying to fulfill the role as a father figure. The state police continue their investigation, and charges have not been filed.

In Lackawanna County , a girls JV basketball coach at holy cross high school resigned when word broke that he sent "questionable” text messages to at least two female players. The district attorney determined that while the text messages were inappropriate, he did not break the law. Dr. Matthew Berger says, cases like these start innocently. "Well, I think first of all its very subtle, it’s very seductively subtle. I don't think they start out thinking I’m going to take advantage of the boy or girl think they start out thinking that I can be a support system, can be helpful, I can be a father figure, a mother figure a mentor and the relationship creeps, very often the child is looking for adult person to care for him, to nurture them to be a positive influence."

Dr. Berger offers this advice to young people, who may feel they are trapped in something they cannot control. "If you feel in anyway like your situation where you are trapped, tell the person's supervisor, tell a parent obviously, don't be afraid that person is not going to believe you or you’re going to get in trouble."

Dr. Berger says their will be trouble of some sort, if you don't tell anyone.
