I-Team: Police Investigation
I-Team: Police Investigation - Friday, January 23, 2009 at 9:00PM EST
Pittston Township -
The I-Team first learned of the investigation last November. A former Pittston township police officer had been fired after allegations surfaced that he abused his position. Township officials called in state police. The cases began when a woman called Pittston Township police and claimed the officer, who we are not naming at this point, pulled her over, and offered to drop charges in exchange for sexual favors.
The I-Team has also learned that the woman involved took a polygraph test. That test was administered by a state trooper. The I-Team was told she passed that test.
The state police will not confirm or deny our information, only that the investigation is ongoing.
Sources close to the case say this investigation has a connection to the arrest of former Pittston Township cop, Charles Byra. He tried running from us outside federal court in Scranton . He was convicted and is serving prison time for stealing a gun from the police locker room.
The I-Team is also told that investigators are looking into at least one other police officer from another Luzerne County police department. | |
