MOOSIC LAKE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

The ice storm that swept into Northeastern Pennsylvania Friday morning caused power blackouts and traffic accidents on area highways.

At 10:18am PPL reported 4353 customers without power in its Northeast region. That included sections of Moosic lake in Lackawanna County where a heavy coating of ice bent trees, broke branches, and snapped power lines. Hamlin, in Wayne County, was hardest hit. 3,303 customers were without electricity there.

State Police were called to two accidents within a few miles along Interstate 84 in Lackawanna County. A tractor trailer was involved in one crash that caused delays in the east bound lanes. Another accident in the west bound lanes involved a car that went out of control and down en embankment. There were no serious injuries involved in either crash.
