In Light of FBI Probe, W-B Teachers Instructed

In Light of FBI Probe, W-B Teachers Instructed - Monday, April 6, 2009 at 10:07PM EST

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- A few hundred teachers streamed out the side door of Solomon-Plains Elementary School Monday afternoon. Two teachers, each speaking on the condition of anonymity said the meeting focused on the federal investigation into the district. They said union representatives instructed them to get attorneys should FBI agents question them about the ongoing probe.
WBRE Eyewitness News learned last week federal detectives were examining district hiring practices in the wake of an alleged pay-to-play scheme where some teachers reportedly paid money in exchange for a position. Records were apparently seized for use at a federal Grand Jury.

Attorneys from the Pennsylvania State Educators' Association (PSEA) said the meeting was routine and was held to apprise teachers of their legal rights in both civil and criminal matters. They refused to comment further. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Namee said he was unaware of the meeting's agenda. Namee was not present at the meeting.
