SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Nearly 40 incoming Freshmen students from the University of Scranton spent most of Wednesday pulling weeds, raking, and picking up litter in Nay Aug Park!
The students volunteered for a program called "Freshmen Involved in Reflective Service Together...or 'FIRST." It began five years ago as a way to get new University students involved in their college community. The volunteers work with agencies such as United Neighborhood Centers, Bellevue Center, and the city's Parks Department on community improvement projects.
More than 90 students who volunteered for the program had to be turned away because of housing limitations.
