WATSONTOWN, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY - Firefighters in Northumberland County came together Saturday afternoon to raise money for one of their own.
Captain Wayne Hawley was badly injured last November while fighting a fire in Montour County. He was a volunteer with the Warrior Run Fire Department.
This weekend, Hawley's wife and fellow firefighters held a chicken barbeque to help raise money to pay for his medical bills. Hawley has been in the hospital or in therapy since the fire, but his wife says he is recovering.
"Wayne is doing well. He is very upbeat, very positive. His therapy is going great and he should be home in about four weeks," Judy Hawley said.
In addition to the barbeque on Saturday, the firefighters also held a benefit dance on Saturday night. | |
