SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- An insurance company involved in a legal battle with Lackawanna County said it will not renew any of its policies with the county once their current terms expire.
In a letter sent to the county on Thursday, the Housing and Redevelopment Insurance Exchange cited what its attorney said was the "Treachery and deceit emanating from the Courthouse" as the reason for its decision.
The dispute stems from a controversy involving insurance coverage, or the lack of coverage, for the fabric covering at the Toyota Pavillion which collapsed during the February snowstorm in 2007.
A spokesman for the county said that all insurance policies are being reviewed anyway in an effort to save the county money.
Asked about the letter the County's majority commissioners said "The insurance gravy train is over."
