TREVORTON - A State Police Fire Marshal is trying to figure out what caused a Northumberland County fire that killed an elderly woman and seriously injured her sister.
The fire Friday afternoon in Trevorton raced through a three-story home at Shamokin and Third Streets.
The victim, Gertrude Koppenheffer, became trapped in the burning home. The coroner says she died from thermal injuries and her manner of death is accidental.
Her sister, Pat Miller, tried to save Koppenheffer.
Firefighters ended up rescuing miller, who's listed in critical condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital Burn Center.
