STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - Beginning in May there will be snow in the Poconos. That's when the area's first minor league soccer team, the Pocono Snow, will start to play. Its home field will be at East Stroudsburg University.

It will be part of the National Premier Soccer League. General Manager Pat Mullally said, "We've got great players, got a great group of guys."

A group of die hard soccer fans put the team together. "I was the kid who slept with his soccer ball," smiled Pocono Snow Board Member Gary Olson.

Olson played on the original Pocono Snow team more than two decades ago. When a friend suggested they bring it back, he jumped at the chance. Olson explained, "I was immediately interested and thought this would be something really good for the community."

A few players have already signed on. They include Danny Drago who has played on a championship team in the league. He said, "I'm pretty excited the Pocono Snow came."

Stroudsburg soccer stand out Michael Kane will also play. He said, "I just love the game. I've been playing since I was four years old."

While the Snow will start off as a minor league team, organizers say they hope the guys eventually make it big. Olson said, "I would love to have a full pro team here and I think this is just the community to do it in."

The Pocono Snow team is holding open tryouts this weekend. They will be Saturday and Sunday at 1 p. m. at the East Stroudsburg University Field on Mary Street.

Pocono Snow tickets will cost $5 for games. Kids wearing their school or youth league soccer jerseys get in for free. The first game is May 17th. That will be an exhibition match against the Colonials at 3 p. m. at Pleasant Valley High School.
