SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A Lackawanna County man has entered a guilty plea to charges stemming from a fatal drunk driving crash last September.
22-year-old Richard Marchegiani of Jessup plead guilty to Homicide by motor vehicle, Driving under the influence, Reckless driving and Recklessly endangering another person.
Police said Marchegiani was doing an estimated 78 miles an hour in a 40 mile an hour zone when his car crashed on Route 247 just off the Casey Highway on September 8th of 2007. Marchegiani's first cousin, Danielle Faramelli, was killed and his friend, Kristopher Harvey was seriously injured. Police said Marchegiani had been drinking at several bars and had marijuana in his system at the time of the fatal wreck.
Machegiani could face up to nine and one half years in prison and fines totaling over $25,000 if sentenced to the maximum. He remains under house arrest and must wear an alcohol monitoring braclet while a pre sentence investigation is conducted. He will be sentenced at a later date.
